SNLA Information in English

The Academy will take place in Finland, June 22nd to June 28th 2025.

Soroptimist Nordic Leadership Academy (SNLA) is designed to support young women between 20 and 30 years old inachieving future leadership roles.

The training, which is conducted in English, is given annually during one summer week in one of the five Nordic countries. Each Nordic country appoints five participants. We choose a place in a pleasant environment, preferably with a historical or cultural background. SNLA started in 2017 on Öland, after which Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland have taken turns organizing the education.

During SNLA you get to familiarise yourself with various tools that you can use in your daily life, primarily in the following areas:

  • Communication, theory and exercises
  • Presentation techniques
  • Feedback – theory and practical exercises
  • Projects and how to run them
  • Leadership – what is good leadership
  • Teams and how to work in them – virtual teams
  • Sustainability – a world-wide subject

We will also have breathing and voice exercises, and Yoga which will give a deeper insight into the body rather than just the head. Each day also includes moments of physical activity. For example, walk-the-talk has become a popular way of reflecting on tasks while walking.

The cost of participating in SNLA is €100, which is paid when you are accepted to the program. Costs beyond this, i.e. education, board & lodging, and travel to and from your home town, are covered by Soroptimists.

What happens during a week of SNLA?

We do workshops where the instructors inspire at the same time teaching various leadership techniques to strengthen your own self-awareness and self-esteem. You actively participate in group work and participate in one or more group presentations. You also work on your own and are expected to give a shorter presentation at the end of the week. Tasks to be prepared are announced well in advance of SNLA starting.

We spend at least half a day getting to know the surroundings. It is no coincidence that SNLA is held in a beautiful location where nature and culture make a lasting impression on the participants.

Mentoring

The SNLA schedule is packed to give participants as much as possible. Reflection afterwards is important and therefore the Soroptimists offer all participants the opportunity to have a mentor: an opportunity to have a sounding board to continue their personal and professional journey in leadership!
